Germany: A benevolent colony in Qingdao?

QIBA (Huangdao) Event

Thursday, 21 November, 2019,18:00 - 20:00

Free for QIBA members,¥200 for guests

Beirf Introduction

Dr. Ines Eben von Racknitz takes her audience along as she seeks the answer to this question. The associate professor of history at prestigious Nanjing University is looking closely at the short 16 years that Qingdao was part of what the Germans called the protectorate of Kiautschou. Often hailed by today’s Qingdao citizens as the builders of the brewery, harbor, sewer system and railway line, how benevolent was the German occupation really? And what were imperial Germany’s motives behind such (perceived) benevolence? Join QIBA in Huangdao for a look at a small part of Qingdao’s past that is still visible for us today!
